JXN Is Art: A Design Studio

In June of 2010, thanks to a generous grant provided by Regions Bank (formerly AmSouth Bank), the JCDC conducted its first design camp for teenagers at the West Capitol Boys and Girl’s Club. The camp entitled, Jackson is ART: a design studio, was a ten day intensive design camp that exposed 30 students, for the first time, to fundamental concepts of architecture and urban design.  The curriculum focused on drawing and modeling, the importance of sustainable and responsible urban design, and career paths in architecture and community development.  This celebratory display of Jackson as art is intended to instill in these children the importance of design and place at an early age.  Please refer to the enclosed DVD to view the documentary of the camp which explains the importance and the benefits of the effort in a manner words cannot express.  This documentary is available online and is often shown to community groups and organizations.
