State Street Study / That Big Ear

This project included a two-part approach in which the project team simultaneously conducted demographic and traffic count research on one of Jackson’s busiest thoroughfares as well as an outreach campaign to garner opinions from the community on local socioeconomic issues. Bisecting the city East from West, State Street is a highly trafficked vehicular route. While serving motorists in moving throughout the city on a daily basis, State Street is highly unfriendly to pedestrians and cyclists, as well as acting as an implied socioeconomic divider between sections of the city.

In conjunction with data gathering and analysis of State Street, the project team conducted a community outreach campaign known as “That Big Ear”. By creating a physical marketing tool immediately noticeable to the public, the project team was able to garner vital information as to how citizens feel about their community.
